Old requests for bot status
gulaaliI request that User:Thijs!bot, operated by User:Thijs! be granted bot status on the Oromo Wikipedia. --Johannes Rohr 20:58, 30 May 2007 (UTC) Done --Johannes Rohr 21:33, 6 Waaxabajjii 2007 (UTC) en:Wikipedia:Bots
I request that i get approval for bot status. I am currently editing Oromo wikipedia and if there is any status or position that is related to or is concerning Oromo wikipedia, I am ready to run it. --Diroma Elias 22:02, 1 Waaxabajjii 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose. 'Bot' is short for 'robot'. It means not a human user, but a machine program run by a human user, that makes automatic edits like adding language links to other wikipedias. The bot can do this anyway without status, but "Bot status" only has the effect of hiding your edits from the recent changes screen, since they tend to clutter it with minor edits. Then in order for people to see your edits, they would have to click "Show bots" (if you do this you will see the bot edits marked with 'b')... Do you really want your edits to be hidden? On the other hand, you can certainly get a bot, but it takes a lot of work to get a bot and run a bot, especially figuring out what to do at first, since the instructions on getting a bot aren't foolproof or user friendly. I could try to walk you through it if you like, since I have my own bot that I run making edits on a few wikipedias. If you think you can figure it out, just go to Meta and look up 'pywikipediabot'. Oppose. You are not a bot, but a human. Bot status is solely for bots, it does not make sense for humans (as explained above). --Johannes Rohr 22:41, 2 Waaxabajjii 2007 (UTC)

Somebody asks me to ask for bot status for Robbot. Why they can't make the request themselves is beyond me, but here we go. - Andre Engels 21:48, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
